Instructions

Preparation

  • Cut 2 pieces of felt for the legs roughly 3cms x 6cms – for a 5cm stick
  • Cut 2 pieces 6cm x 8cms for the bottom of the feet.
  • Cut pieces of felt roughly 5 cm long and 4-5cms long for the arms.
  • Cut a square 2.5cm x 2.5cm for the eye (optional)
  • Cut some long strips roughly 1.5cms and as long as possible for the body and head wrapping.
  • Fur Fabric of your choice roughly 5cms x 5cms cut into a V shape.

Nose and Hands:

  1. Use a square of pantyhose and push in some fiberfill to form a ball shape. Twist, then wrap around a small silicone band. Make 2 hands and 1 nose (the nose should be bigger).
  2. Trim off the excess material, leaving a little for gluing.

Feet and Legs:

  1. Cut the foam egg in half for the feet (2). Be careful when using a bread knife or craft knife (This step should be done by an adult).
  2. Glue the sole of the feet onto a piece of cloth and trim off any excess.
  3. Take a wooden leg piece and glue it lengthwise onto the 3cm end of the 3cm x 6cm strip of felt. Roll it up and glue it down at the end, ensuring you leave a bit of wood at each end, which will be glued into the body and the foot. Repeat for the other leg.
  4. Decide where you want the leg to go in on the foot and make a hole with a pair of scissors (best done by an adult). Do this on both sides, then apply some hot glue and insert the legs (wooden part) at a slight angle, facing inward.
  5. Cut strips of felt roughly 1.5cm wide but as long as you like to resemble bandages. Use these strips to cover the top of the feet in a pattern you’re happy with. Trim off any excess.Glue the heels together, this is for stability.

Arms:

  1. Take your piece of felt for the arm and glue a hand onto one end. Roll the material lengthwise, ensuring the silicone band doesn’t show and the seam is in the middle.
  2. Repeat for the other arm.

Body, Head, Eye, and Beard:

  1. Use the foam cone as a template and cut out a slightly larger circle from the felt.
  2. Glue the felt circle onto the bottom of the foam cone. Snip around the edge and glue the material up the sides of the cone.
  3. Cut a square piece of felt, approximately 2.5cm x 2.5cm, for the eye (optional). Cut a small slit in the material for the eye, then glue it over the eye, allowing the eye to peek through.
  4. Decide where you want the eye to sit and glue it onto the foam cone.
  5. Glue the nose onto the cone.
  6. Glue the V-shaped fur fabric (beard) onto the cone and around the nose.
  7. Cut strips of felt, roughly 1.5cm wide but as long as you like. Use these strips to glue onto the foam cone in a pattern of your choice, taking care not to cover the beard or eye if you’ve added one.

Legs and Arms:

  1. Use some paint or a marker to mark the top of the legs. Place the body on the legs to transfer the marks.
  2. With a pair of scissors, make holes at the marked spots. Apply hot glue to the holes and insert the legs, ensuring the feet are sitting flat on the surface and facing forward.
  3. Decide where you want the arms and glue them on.

Decorations:

  1. Add any desired decorations, such as small spiders, to personalize your mummy gnome.
